Designing Worlds DW413 - One Billion Rising in Second Life 2020

In this episode, we‘re visiting the regions where the annual One Billion Rising event was held on Friday February 14th.

Note that this programme includes still images representing violence against women, which some viewers may find upsetting. You can find resources on the One Billion Rising in SL web site at

ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. And since 2013, one of those places where we come together for One Billion Rising is in Second Life – which is recognised as a full Rising event by the international organisation of One Billion Rising.

We talk to several of the people who put the event together, take a look at some of the performing arts and incredible artwork that characterises the event, and much more.

Music: The music used in this episode was licensed from Audioblocks/Film Firm Inc, with the exception of the opening theme licensed from Associated Production Music, and the One Billion Rising theme, "Break The Chain" by Tena Clark & Tim Heinz, with Spanish lyrics sung by Katherine Jamilka, which was included with the permission of the copyright holders.
